The full name of AMH is Anti-Mullerian Hormone. It is a protein hormone that is mostly produced by the granulosa cells in microscopic follicles, which are those minuscule pouches that hold eggs in the ovary. Something called granulosa cells aid in the development of eggs in a woman's ovaries. These cells play a major role in providing the maximal quantity of AMH during the preantral and tiny antral stages of follicle growth. Reduced amounts of AMH are produced as the follicles get bigger. The quantity of AMH that is still being produced is essentially nonexistent when a follicle reaches a size of about 8 mm. Because preantral and tiny antral follicles are constantly found in the ovaries, daily levels of AMH remain consistent. To find out how many eggs are still in a woman's ovary, an AMH test can be performed on any day of her cycle.
